Karaoke definitions
Karaoke |
Karaoke is singing with a pre-existing song, where you replace the original lead singer. Karaoke songs are reproduced to sound like the original song, but without lead vocals. The lyrics of the song are presented to the singer via a video screen, highlighting the words to be sung, so that the singer can follow along without memorizing the song lyrics.
Pre-recorded music used by a singer or other musician during performance and which augments or entirely replaces other performers.
The karaoke CDG, also known as CD+G (Compact Disc plus Graphics), is
very similar to a standard audio CD. The difference lies in the graphic
data (lyrics and images) that is embedded in the unused sub-channel of
the disc. The audio portion of a CDG can be played with a standard CD
player. A karaoke player is required to display the graphics on a
monitor.
MP3+G consists of two files, the audio track
compressed to the mp3 format and a separate cdg file that contains the
graphic data. These two files combined occupy about one eighth the disc
space of a standard CDG track. This is a great way to back up your
karaoke discs to your hard drive or CD's.
Vocal reducers are either electronic devices or software applications
that attempt to suppress the lead vocals on a standard (non-karaoke)
audio track. The vocals are never "completely" removed although they
can sometimes be reduced to a point where they are inaudible while you
are singing along. The quality of the music is always degraded to some
degree.
Musical Instrument Digital Interface is a standard adopted by the electronic music industry for controlling devices, such as synthesizers and sound cards, that emit music.
Standard MIDI files provide a common file format used by most musical
software and hardware devices to store song information including the
title, track names, and most importantly what instruments to use and
the sequence of musical events, such as notes and instrument control
information needed to play back the song.
